Vidēre — Support

What Vidēre is

Vidēre is a media player. It does not include, sell, or recommend any channels, playlists, or subscription services. You supply your own playlist or provider and are responsible for having the right to view what you play.

Neither Vidēre nor Agastopia supplies, sells, or recommends any content or providers — there is nothing bundled and nothing to sign up for. Vidēre only plays the source you point it at.

The three screens

  • Live Lists the channels in your source by category, with favourites and search. Select one to open the player.
  • Guide Shows now and next for every channel and a grid of the day's listings. A finished programme on a channel with an archive offers Catch up.
  • Library Holds your movies and series, with resume, Continue Watching, and next-episode autoplay.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a source?
Go to Settings → Sources → Add, then choose Xtream Codes, an M3U web address, or (on iOS and macOS) a local M3U file, and enter what your provider gave you. Vidēre talks only to the address you enter there.
Which login should I use?
If your provider gave you a host, a username, and a password, choose Xtream Codes — you get movies, series, and catch-up along with live channels. If all you have is a single playlist link, choose M3U web address instead; Vidēre plays live channels from it, just without the Xtream extras.
My provider gave me two URLs
Some providers send a playlist-style link (often ending in get.php) that is actually an Xtream login wearing a different shape, plus a separate guide link. Paste the first one into Add Source and Vidēre offers to add it as Xtream (recommended) or as a plain playlist; the second link is your EPG address for Settings → Guide.
How does the programme guide get matched to my channels?
Add an XMLTV web address or use your provider's short guide in Settings → Guide. Vidēre downloads it and matches channel names to your source automatically — most providers need no manual mapping.
What does the engine badge mean?
Vidēre plays HLS and MP4 with Apple's own AVPlayer whenever it can, and switches to VLCKit automatically for raw MPEG-TS, Matroska, or a codec AVPlayer won't decode. The badge next to the transport controls always names the engine currently in use, and you can pin either engine to a channel yourself.
Why won't a channel play?
Check that your provider's address and login are still correct and that your subscription with them is active — Vidēre only plays what your provider serves it. If a channel briefly fails, Vidēre reconnects on its own; if it keeps failing, try pinning the other engine for that channel, since VLCKit and AVPlayer decode a different set of formats.
Why does an episode say "This provider isn't serving this episode"?
Some providers list an episode in your library without actually having the file behind it, so Vidēre checks first and tells you right away instead of leaving you waiting on a spinner that was never going to resolve.
How do I go back to the last channel I was watching?
On Apple TV, press Left on the remote (or wherever you've moved it — Settings → Remote lets you rebind it). On iPhone or iPad, swipe left with two fingers over the video, or tap the last-channel button in the player controls. On Mac, press ⌘[ or choose Playback → Last Channel. Press it again and you're back where you started, cable-box style.
How do I jump straight to a channel by number?
Type the number and Vidēre tunes to it once the digits go quiet for two seconds — live channels only. On Apple TV, the keypad button in the player controls brings up an on-screen grid. On iPhone or iPad with a hardware keyboard attached, and on Mac with any keyboard, just type the digits — there's nothing to summon first. Vidēre uses your provider's own channel number when it has one, and otherwise counts down the list you're watching from.
